With people she is familiar with she is more outgoing, cracking jokes, teasing and almost always smiling. She is timid of unfamiliar in forced situations like parties, if she doesn't take charge of her surroundings in some small way. She is even more scared of vampires and weres. She loves Bon Temps and can't imagine living anywhere else ever again.
She loves outdoors, kids, ice cream and her mom. She can often be found at her mom's house doing odd jobs for her, or having lunch with her. Hanging out there on her day off, mooching fried foods off her momma's stove, and taking the little fluffy llahsa apso for walks often consume empty hours, and keep her mind occuppied.

April grew up fairly normal, until she was 12. Her parents
pulled her aside one day, and filled her in on the family
history. Horrified and disgusted she had hopes that being a
shifter would pass her over, but her parents recognized some
tell tale signs. April didn't want to be different, she wanted
to fit in with her friends and tried to ignore what her body was
telling her. They stressed that it was nothing to be ashamed of, that secrecy and shame were very different things, and helped her work through the process. Very supportive and nurturing, they helped her accept that part of her and helped her develop into a positive person.
When she was nineteen, her father died trying to help some college kids start their stalled car on the highway, when a car from an opposing lane spun out of control and struck him. It devastated April and her mom, causing her mom to sell the house and eventually move into a much smaller apartment, knowing that April would move out on her own soon anway. Several months later, April did exactly that, trying to stake out a place to live and a living in Shreveport, finding some girls she knew briefly in high school, older girls who seemed cool, and they let her stay with them, even getting her a job in what turned out to be a were bar.
Living with them for even a short time was hazardous to April's health. These girls didn't just look dangerous they were entirely dangerous. They were weres, all having known each other since childhood, going to the same schools, knowing the same people, all related in different ways. Their unopposed leader was Andrea, just the same as in high school. Flattered to be a part of them, even after she found out what they were, April lived what seemed to be an adventure until a disaster split them all up.
Andrea had stolen some money and product from a Vdealer, a really nasty guy. He followed them out of work one night, chasing them across town by car. They tried to lose him, thinking they were smart heading out past the business district to some of the most deserted areas in Shreveport, but then he began shooting. Andrea was hit, and began throwing V vials out of the car window as a distraction. They managed to lose him briefly, and left a bleeding Andrea in an alley, clutching the last vials. April was terrified to leave her there, but was more terrified to be left with her, as the other girls threatened to do. They split up after that, April ran home to Bon Temps and the small group of fear stricken girls split up never to contact each other again.
